Does Paid Online Advertising Work for DUI Lawyers?

I’m a DUI lawyer. I own my own law firm. And one of the biggest part of my jobs is finding new clients. I’m good at what I do, and I know that when people hire me as their DUI attorney that they are making a good choice. But it’s hard to separate yourself from all the other attorneys out there. Paid online advertising is one option. But does it work? Here’s what I’ve experienced.

Google Seattle DUI lawyers and see what pops up. You probably immediately notice four things. First, there is a maps section with 10 lawyers listed. Second, there is a paid portion above the maps that is highlight. Third, there is another sponsored section with many law firm advertising their services down the right hand side. And finally, there are 2.2 million results for the search. Note I didn’t mention the organic results. We all know about them.

What I’m talking about in this article are the advertisements that are at the top and at the right of the page. The way these work is you buy some space, you put together some ads with your selected keywords, and then you pay each time someone clicks on your ad (with a keyword such as Seattle DUI attorney it can be upwards of $20 a click!) whether they hire you or not.

But does this stuff work?

The answer, not surprisingly, is yes and no. If you place some ads, you will get clicks. But, will you get clients? I think that’s a little bit harder to determine. I’ve done this in the past, utilizing keywords like DUI lawyer and DUI attorney and the like. I got a lot of clicks. I didn’t get a lot of clients. But some people might.

In the end, if you are considering using some paid online advertising and you are a DUI attorney, this is the advice I’d give you – try it out. Give it three months, get an ad campaign up there, and see what happens. If it works for you, keep it up. If it doesn’t, you cut your losses and move on to something else.

1.  Do the work that you have planned  –  The only way you will fail in your blogging is to stop taking action.  Every post and article you write and put up takes you closer to your goal of making money from your blogging.  You just have to commit to the content plan you have and execute it.  Do not deviate from this plan for any reason, and you will be heading in the right direction.

2.  Do not look at your stats at all for at least 30 days  –  You do not want to get hung up on checking your traffic or sales stats every day, or worse yet multiple times a day.  You want to work on the “input end” of your blog, which is your content generation and posting.  Do not worry about your stats at all and you will become a much more successful blogger.

3.  Do not worry about making money for 90 days —  You may make money in the first 90 days of your blog.  That is entirely possible.  You do not want to really concern yourself with this right now.  Your income will really start to kick in after your first 90 days as long as you work those 90 day.  Do not let the lack of income deter you from doing the work that needs to be done.

If you have a strong ‘bias for action”, and you do the work you have planned, your blog will take off.  Do not allow any negativity or fear of failure to creep into your blogging, and you will much better off for this approach.
