Summer Song – What’s Yours?

Summer is arguably the best season of the year. Warm weather, little to no rain, and clear blue skies all encourage going to the beach, taking a dip in the pool, or just chillin’ and hanging out with friends. And what better way to enhance the summer season than by selecting a favorite summer song to play during any of these activities.

Summer songs are perfect for the season because their lyrics and melodies often evoke emotions that are well suited for the time of the year. And almost all genres of music have songs about summer, whether it’s hip-hop, R&B, pop, pop-rock, alternative, giving people of different preferences many options for their song for summer.

These songs have many different topics and themes. Some sing about summer activities, such as playing sports, or hanging out near open fire hydrants to beat the heat, or enjoying a few drinks in the pool with friends. Others sing about the visual beauty of the season, such as the clear blue sky and the clear water, the deep orange sunsets, and white sandy beaches with coconuts all over. Almost every summer topic is covered by the numerous summer hits.

But arguably the most popular are summer love songs. Many artists sing about “the summer of love”, referring to the sun and heat of summer and relating them to many different things about love. Some would sing about how the fiery passion of a couple’s love for one another is like the summer heat, or how young kids experience their first kiss under a clear summer day. A very common theme is about summer love, which is a relationship that only lasts during summer. Some would also sing about making the summer even hotter, but that’s open to interpretation.

And it seems like summer and love truly mix, as there are many love songs from all genres that talk about summer. From Bryan Adams’ “Summer of 69”, to The Corrs’ “Summer Sunshine”, to Will Smith’s “Summertime” to Olivia Newton John’s “Summer Nights”, summer and love are two things that win the hearts of all kinds of artists.

When summer comes around, people everywhere are sure to pick their favorite songs. Whether it be for fun, relaxation, or love, summer songs are there for everyone’s summer enjoyment.
