It’s happened to many of us. We have our trusty MP3 player in our pockets, while walking down the street, or taking a jog out in the park, or attending a friend’s party, or even doing the laundry. Suddenly, something happens. A car runs over a puddle, and sprays our clothing. Rain suddenly pours in the park. A friend suddenly pushes us into the swimming pool. We recklessly toss our clothes into the washing machine without checking the pockets. All ending up with the same thing; a soaked MP3 player.

For many MP3 players, this usually means disaster. Some popular MP3 players can’t stay wet for more than a few seconds, and they usually end up unusable after being through such torture.

While they are considered a niche product, many people are considering the waterproof version of the MP3 player because many of them are becoming aesthetically and technologically equal to more stylish players, but with the added security if being protected from water and moisture.

The technology first started with waterproof cases for many of the popular MP3 players in the market. The problem with this, however, is that there are still instances wherein people who own these still manage to get their MP3 players wet when the cases aren’t attached, because they feel that at that particular time, it wasn’t needed.

MP3 players that are waterproof prevent this from happening. And unlike most waterproof cases, these players also feature shock resistant technology, making it more attractive to people with active lifestyles.

An MP3 player that is waterproof is very useful for athletes who do laps around the swimming pool, for people who work outdoors, such as park rangers, and generally, people who find themselves doing all sorts of water activities, such as fishing.

The most modern  players can even be submerged at decent depths. These MP3 players are used by surfers and swimmers, who bring their MP3 players deliberately to the water, so they can still listen to their favorite tunes!

For people who wish to have this protection, however, it comes at a price. A unit can range from $90 for a 2GB capacity machine, to $150 for a 1GB capacity that can be totally submerged underwater.
